Dinner Dance Poster Contest
This year, for the dinner dance, the committee has decided to let the students design the advertisement posters. Here are the details:
- Posters are due April 9th by 9 pm! (That's not very much time...)
- Designs can be digitally made or drawn by hand, but ALL designs must be sent electronically to Mom Moulton at copperhillsbandboosters@gmail.com in JPG form.
- Designs must include the following:
- Grizzly Groove 'n' Move
- May 18th at 6:00 pm
- CHHS Main Gym
- Featuring the CHHS Jazz Ensemble
- Special Guests: The Phoenix Jazz and Swing Band
- Silent Dessert Auction
- On-line ticket reservation at: copperhillsbands.ludus.com
- Ticket prices:
- $12 for Dinner and Dancing
- $6 for Dancing Only
- "Copper Hills High School"written out somewhere on the poster
All designs will be displayed anonymously. Students will vote for their favorite during the day on April 10th. After the Monster Concert on the 10th, the dinner dance committee will choose 1 design from the top 3 of the student votes. Winner will be announced on April 11th.
The chosen designer will receive a $25 Gift Card to Smith's!

We’re sorry to write with disappointing news. Recently, we learned that Verizon will be charging Remind a new fee that makes it impossible for us to continue supporting free text messaging for anyone who has Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier. Please read on for all the important details—we promise to keep this as short as we can.
What’s happening?
To offer our text messaging service free of charge, Remind has always paid for each text that our users receive or send. Now, Verizon is charging Remind an additional fee intended for companies that send spam over its network. Your Remind messages aren’t spam, but our efforts to resolve the issue with Verizon haven’t been successful.

As a result, the Verizon fee will increase our costs of providing text messaging by 11X—pushing our annual costs into the millions of dollars. This isn’t financially feasible for us to support, and it’s forcing us to end Remind text messaging for everyone who has a wireless plan with Verizon.
How will this affect you?
Beginning January 28, 2019, the people in your classes who normally get your Remind messages as texts will no longer receive these messages if they have Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier.

What can you do?
To make sure people in your classes continue receiving your messages, ask them to download the mobile app or enable email notifications—both of which are free of charge. Academic All-State
UHSAA is now including music in their Academic All-State program! In order to be eligible a student must:
- Be a senior
- Be registered on Register My Athlete
- Qualify with an index score (index scores here) or an unweighted 4.0 GPA
If you qualify, here's how to apply:
- Enter your Register My Athlete account and click on the Academic All-State tab
- Enter your unweighted cumulative high school GPA (you can get a transcript in the Registrar's office)
- Enter ACT/SAT score(s)
- Submit nomination form
The deadline to get your part finished is January 28th! Do not delay!

Winter Concert Yearly Reception
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Our Annual Winter Band Concert is quickly approaching. Every year we like to take a moment and celebrate the holiday season with our Band family. We will have a reception immediately following our Winter concert on December 18, 2018. We thought it would be fun to involve our families in providing the holiday Cookies for this reception. College Auditions
SENIORS!!!
Did you know some colleges give music scholarship money even to those not majoring in music? Did you know that playing in a music group in college helps you do better in your studies?
Colleges will be starting their auditions soon after the New Year! Audition dates are usually posted on each college's music department web site. Audition requirements are usually posted there, as well. Look up the college(s) you're interested in today!
Go for it! It doesn't hurt to earn a little extra money for college. AND you get to keep playing music even if you're not majoring in music.

Booster Meeting Minutes--11/6/18
We had a fantastic turn out for our parent meeting on Tuesday. Thanks to everyone who came. For those who couldn't make it, here is what was discussed:
- The 2018 Fall Marching Band season.
- The general consensus was that things went well. Communication was good. There were more volunteers than ever. The band is stronger and improving.
- Some things that could be fixed:
- Feeding the kids. The concern was that the kids would eat a big meal before boarding the bus and then not be hungry a couple of hours later to eat the meal the parent provide. They also seem to lose focus during that time. They also always seemed to be rushed. Some ideas were to feed them before they board buses, giving them a box lunch to eat on the way, or not feeding them a whole meal but providing snacks for after performing.
- Disorganization of equipment. It was pointed out that since we are in the upper classes, there is less room to park and spread out. It was suggested that the kids be trained to put their cases in a certain spot away from the back of the trailers so they can be unloaded and things aren't so messy. We just have to work with the limited space that we are given.
- Working in the dark. It seemed more items were lost this year. This could be due to the fact that we weren't completely prepared for what it's like to pack up in the dark. A suggestion was made to acquire lights that belong to the band. Reorganizing the way the kids leave their instrument cases could also help with this.
- Saturday work day to clean pod and store marching band equipment.
- November 10th at 9:00 am
- Fundraising
- Eric Burns introduced the sponsor program that he and Lindsay Godwin started. Several parent took letter with them to get the ball rolling.
- Eric also talked about upcoming fundraisers
- We will be asking for help sorting the Lehi Roller Mills order once it comes in.
- Larry Webb talked about U of U concessions. He is going to look at the calendar and sign us up for more opportunities. He is going to decide to sign up for 12 or 24 positions. Filling 24 positions during football/marching band season was difficult, but maybe during the winter/spring sports we will have an easier time filling positions.
- Winter Competition Season
- Carrie Black and Sara Leach talked about needing help during the season and also when we host competitions in March/April. Sign-ups will be going up for volunteers. Color Guard dates will also be going on the calendar.
- Band Dinner/Dance (May 18, 2019)
- Janice Bringhurst asked for parents to join the planning committee. If you are interested, please email the boosters (copperhillbandboosters@gmail.com) with your name and number.
