If your student is playing with the band for graduation, here are the details:

The day is Thursday, June 1st
Call time is 7:30 a.m.
Please wear concert black (graduation attire for seniors)
Bus will return around 12:00 p.m.

A Letter From MJ

Dear band students and parents of CHHS,
    
     Most of you have already heard, but I will not be coming back next year to teach at Copper Hills.  The reasons aren't that important but you should know that it is a good move for me and the right one.  I am, of course, incredibly sad to be leaving Copper Hills and have really struggled with this decision.  I realize this move will probably leave you with questions.
    The first thing you should know is that I'm working with the administration to find an excellent replacement for myself.  I'm not sure about the details of the interview process because the job will not even be listed until tomorrow.  Once I know the details you will hear.  I am hopeful that some of the potential candidates I've discovered will get the job - there are highly qualified candidates out there and I'm determined to find one of them to take this growing and developing program to new heights.
   The second thing I will address is summer band.  Again, I'm not sure what is going to happen because it all depends on who we get and how fast they can get here.  For sure summer band will not happen the first week of June.  We may have to delay it further, as well.  If that happens I will let you know.
   Other than that, all you really need to know is that things will continue as planned.  The new director will definitely make changes, but no major changes for now.  9th graders will still march, the band boosters will still continue forward, and CHHS will still continue getting bigger and better.  For all other questions, feel free to e-mail me at jerusha.johnson@jordandistrict.org.
   Thank you for the most wonderful 3 years of my life.  I will never forget my time at Copper Hills, nor any of the students, parents, staff, teachers, and administrators I worked with.  I consider myself the luckiest person on the planet.

For those parents wanting to follow the band to St. George for the Red Rocks competition, but not want to be official chaperons, here is the information for where the band is staying:

Staying with the band is not required, of course, but it can be quite entertaining.

Summer Band

Summer band is just around the corner!  There are a few items that Miss Johnson wants you to remember:

If you will be missing any summer band for any reason, please contact Miss Johnson (jerusha.johnson@jordandistrict.org).  This goes for a large chunk of time or if any rookies will miss rookie camp on June 8th.  The section leaders need to know who will be missing so they can work with them to catch up.

Also, if your child has a consistent attendance problem for summer classes (ie PE, chemistry, etc), please let Miss Johnson know ASAP.

Parent Meeting Tonight!

Just a reminder that our parent meeting is tonight at 6:00 p.m. in the band room!  Please be sure to bring:

  1. Student info and signed contract.
  2. Shoe and/or parent shirt order forms, if applicable
If you will be staying after to have a quick physical, please bring:
  1. Physical form.  It can be printed from this blog.  Look under the "Forms and Information" tab.
  2. Payment of $20.  Cash or check.
There will be a sign-in for the physicals when you come in.  If you are staying, please sign the paper so Melissa will know who to begin with when the meeting is over.

Parent Meeting

All parent of students who wish to participate in marching band (any season) are invited to a parent meeting.  At least one parent is required to attend.  It is May 10th at 6:00 p.m. in the Copper Hills Band Room.  Please bring the following paperwork:


  1.  Signed contract and student information sheet.
  2. Completed physical form, if finished.  This form will be due by the first day of summer band.
  3. Parent shirt or shoe order forms, if applicable.
One of our parents is a certified health care worker.  She had agreed to conduct physicals for $20.  She will be in the band room after the parent meeting until 8:30.  She will be there again on May 17th from 6:30-8:30 for those who are interested.  You can find the link for the physical forms on this blog under the "Forms and Information" tab.

Keep in mind:
  • The first and non-refundable fee of $200 (for summer/fall students) and $70 (for summer only students) is due on May 24th.  The payment will go on your child's Skyward account under Marching Band.  Please bring your receipt to the band room and place it in the blue file box to the right of MJ's office.
  • A copy of your student's 2016-17 grades are also due on the first day of summer band.
